Fearful Christians stubbornly refuse to do the difficult spiritual and emotional and intellectual work that living in the world and maintaining a relationship with him demands. They don’t want to go through it. Who does?
The thought of being grown up appeals to every kid. But the process of doing so is universally felt as angst of some sort. All teenagers struggle with this in one way or another — hence the eye-rolling effect that happens when any adult mentions that he or she is the parent of a teenager.
Life is hard. God doesn’t turn away honest questions.
