I used to go to a church that made an unstated competition out of faith, as though the whole thing were a game to “win” by being the most “fired up for Jesus.”

If thinking about growing out of kindergarten faith causes a flutter, and you’re looking forward to your growing up process with some ambitious feeling that you’ve finally found a way to “put away childish things” in the greedy I’m-going-to-be-the-most-fired-up Christian sense, you’re still a child.
