I decided to surf the BlogRush Widget again today. What I found was mixed:
Good Finds:
- I like the suppositoreum. It’s funny in an understated way. Plus, the posts are short, so it doesn’t feel like I’m taking on another big chunk of reading. Nice writing!
- A nice slide show about Hurricane Katrina. I’m from South Louisiana, so this makes me incredibly sad.
- A good article about what you can do if your child is being bullied on the Internet.
- Wordpreneur.com is offering free e-books on writing. Everyone seems to be hungry for writing tips. This makes the English teacher in me very, very happy.
- A TV insider is opening up his blog for questions on the subject…. so many I don’t know where to start.
- Several great writing blogs, including Writing Thoughts and The Writing Life.
- I found a place to look for coupons.
- Found out about the 24 Hour Read-a-thon. Will participate. Books are sexy.
- I learned from this blog that I can get news clips from TheNewsRoom.com, possibly solving at least part of my problem with accessing YouTube at school.
- Marloes Arnhem said something so true about men!
- I enjoyed the writing tips on Story Ideas Virtuoso. Will use some of these tips.
- I love this weekend snapshot! I need to get better at taking pictures.
- Terry Heath has a great idea for making his blog more scannable for readers. He gives “a quick synopsis of what’s been in the blog that week. If you don’t find the time to read all the posts in a week, maybe the digest will help you scan for things you might like.” Anything that helps the readers with information overload is most excellent. Good idea!
Problem Finds:
This one was page not found.
Observations:
- There are quite a few blogs in the widget that don’t display the widget on their own blogs. Could they have recently removed the widget, and their stuff just hasn’t worked its way out of the system? Is there something fishy? Am I missing something? UPDATE: I removed the links to these just to be safe because I found a mistake in one of them, and didn’t want to spread false info. There were lots of them that didn’t have the widget showing. Don’t know why or what happened. Please forgive.
- A couple were bad links; not many, though.
- The quality of blogs listed were mixed, but none of the truly great blogs were listed.
- The highest quality category of the blogs I surfed were definitely the writing ones.
- I went to 30 or more sites and never saw my own headline once. Is this because I am negative in credits?

It wasn’t there before, I don’t know why. Your window was open for a while (as all the windows were when I was surfing the widget) But I see it now. I am removing that link, and adding a nice comment about your lovely photo. If that was my fault, I’m sorry.

I’ve had the widget for almost a week now, and that’s why I was surprised when I received a ping from your site and read about you not finding it. But thanks for moving my link under your “good finds”.

Thanks for the link back to my site! I was delighted to see I now have two backlinks. Whoo-hoo! (People who’ve been at this awhile may not understand my enthusiasm, but I’m just climbing my way up through the search engines and good backlinks are gold, even two of them!
I’ll be sure and link here as well. BTW, I have future plans to create a creative writing ideas blog for teachers. Thought you’d like to know.

I’m glad you found my site through the widget, though I’m sorry you don’t seem to be getting too much traffic back yourself. At the very least, your mentioning of my site brought your site to my attention, so I’m here now.
I’ll certainly poke my nose around and come back. Especially since you mention Futurama a few times…

Deborah — I remember when I got my first back link! I was all hooray too! I wasn’t expecting it, so when I logged in, it made me jump. So I know just how you feel.
