Truth #1: It’s not as hard as it seems.
Since February, I have lost 40 pounds. I still have more to go, but losing that weight has changed my life. Not in the ways I thought, though. I have become much more confident, not because I look so much better (which I do) but because I took on the hardest thing in my life, and found that it wasn’t that hard at all. The key is consistency.
Truth #2: There is no magic bullet.
Everyone is asking me how I did it. The answer is Weight Watchers. But I hate answering that question because the asking betrays the underlying belief that there is some magic bullet. There isn’t.
Truth #3: The answer isn’t a secret.
Weight Watchers didn’t do it for me. I did it. What Weight Watchers did was provide a simple-to-understand structure for making the changes I already knew I needed to make. If you want to lose weight, you already know what to do.
Truth #4: The media portrayal of super-skinny women is unrealistic.
It’s unrealistic. Stop thinking that you’re going to look like Britney Spears, that you won’t be happy until you look like Britney Spears. Even Britney doesn’t look like Britney Spears anymore. But you can look beautiful and feel sexy and be so happy that you’ve conquered a major obstacle in your life. I have found that overcoming this one thing has changed my whole perspective on what I can do if I put my mind to it. Now that’s sexy!
I know I wouldn’t have the confidence to write this blog if I was still fat. The blog may not be much, but my dad used to say that nothing worth doing can be done in a day. It turns out that consistency is the key to a lot of things.
Truth #5: You have never blown it. You cannot afford to give up.
Too many people watch the scale obsessively and feel their whole world is crashing down if they have a sundae, or gain 1/2 a pound. At that point, they give up. “But I’ve already blown it! I had this, and this, and this….” All I can say to that is, “Are you planning to stop living in your body? Do you have a spare?” Giving up on your body is giving up on your life.
The corollary to Truth #5 is this: Investing in your body is investing in your life. If you feel like, inside, you’ve already given up, DO IT ANYWAY. The investment will change your feelings and your body. Not to mention that anything an antidepressant can do, a walk can do better.

I’m also trying to lose weight. And I think that sparkpeople.com’s a good site. It’s free too. Lol.
And no, I’m in no way affiliated with them, haha.

I’m glad you made that recommendation, Tiffany, because I really do not think it matters which program you use, as long as you find one you can stick to (as long as its not dangerous.)
lisa-gaye, I’m still not getting anything at that address.
