It’s Easy to Blame Tupac

hazmat.jpgThe parents in the town I live in are all up in arms because of the increasing gang activity. Understandably so.

Their idea of doing something about this is to have a meeting about the negative impact of gansta rap. They specifically mentioned Tupac on the news. Because it’s all his fault, right? There were no gangs before Tupac started rapping.

I swear our society is so full of poison I feel like I need a haz mat suit just to leave the house.

If their goal is to be more involved in their kids’ lives and take some responsibility for the media their kids consume, I fully concur. I believe Tupac would concur as well.

But blaming the messenger is just stupid. Art mirrors life. People buy and listen to Tupac’s music because they identify with his descriptions of this poisonous society. If these parents use Tupac as a scapegoat, nothing will change. But I won’t be surprised.

Yes, I'm an imitation Barbie knock-off doll. What of it? Barbie's got nothing on me! Let me take you to school.
