Life Lessons From Star Wars

My film classes will be watching “A New Hope” in the coming month as a segue between our fantasy and sci-fi units, since “Star Wars” is a science fantasy, not strictly speaking, science fiction. In preparing for this I have come across a list I wrote the last time I taught the Star Wars series, which I called at the time, “All I need to know about life I learned from watching Star Wars.”

1. Sometimes it’s common sense to let the wookie win.
2. Anger, fear, and aggression lead to the Dark Side.
3. Keep your promises, even if they take you far, far away.
4. If it smells bad on the outside, it’s worse on the inside.
5. Faith in your friends is a strength, not a weakness.
6. Traveling through hyperspace ain’t like dusting crops.
7. You must choose your own path; no one can choose it for you.
8. Wars do not make one great.
9. Don’t underestimate the force.
10. The possibility of successfully navigating an asteroid field is approximately 3720 to 1.

What about you? Any others to add?

I'm Taylor. This is my classroom. There used to be a "real" teacher behind this blog, but she nagged me all the time about not saying this and not saying that. ~all she ever did was type anyway, since my fingers are stuck together~ So I've taken over. Yes, I'm an imitation Barbie knock-off doll. What of it? Barbie's got nothing on me! Let me take you to school.
