Here’s the breakdown of events for today. I’m hoping for some Gestalt here. There has to be something greater than the sum of these parts.
6:15 Wake-Up, check bank account, get stomachache.
6:30 Gotta pee. Forgot and flushed while hubby was showering. Burned his bum.
7:30 At McDonald’s drive-through for the only eat-out breakfast that fits with my diet. Girl says she’ll be right with me about four times, takes my order, then says, “Are you paying with cash or debit?” I tell her debit. She says drive around. I hand her my card. She says, “I’m sorry, I thought you said cash; the machine is broken.” Shit. 10 minutes lost.
7:40 Have to get gas. Have to stretch and pull the hose because I didn’t park close enough. Too hurried to re-park.
7:50 Found alternative food. Not on diet. Strike one!
8:05 Door of classroom. Shit again! Just realized I left my classroom keys at home. First time in four years, though. Still, it means leaving the door unlocked while I pee between classes, which will take twice as long as normal because I’ll have to mooch a bathroom key.
8:20 Finally inside room to find that the sub never had the film from the media center the Film Criticism students were supposed to watch (Star Wars: Episode IV.)
“Great,” I say. “What did y’all do?”
“Not much,” they say. Fantastic.
8:25 Turning on lamps around room; find one of the new ones I bought this year has been ruined in my absence. Bye, bye $20.
8:30 Students fill me in on the Great Lunchroom Debacle, which is so ridiculous it deserves its own post.
8:35 Check email. Parent writes, “A bit saddened that some authority figures there lie.” Yup. Me too.
8:45 Someone drew a huge penis on the tardy sign-in sheet. Welcome back.
9:00 Take a cell phone.
9:05 Confirm Great Lunchroom Debacle story via Skype from KittyCat.
9:06 Rethinking turning in that cell phone.
9:08 KittyCat says she won’t teach when she moves to her new town after her husband gets out of basic training. She can’t face it after working here.
9:25 Being observed by admin after 2 days out. Nervous, but don’t really know why. Not ashamed of anything I’m doing, but overall adversarial atmosphere is hard to ignore.
11:42 Han Solo says, “I’ve got a bad feeling about this.”
I won’t even go into the parent meeting & department meeting from the afternoon.
