This image flashed across my screen during a commercial for Forty Year Old Virgin during Law and Order: Criminal Intent on the USA cable network last night. This image is NOT SAFE FOR WORK.

Image here.

I know that what is happening in the image is not what it looks like. But it does look like it. And isn’t that the point?

It’s hard to believe we had so much trouble with Janet Jackson’s nipple.

Well the difference between this and Janet Jackson’s ridiculousness, is that this was on cable TV. If this happened on Fox or NBC or something, I’m sure there would’ve been some crazy uproar somewhere by somebody.

It amazes me how messed up things are over here in terms of poor body images for young girls, uproars over some of the silliest things said or shown on TV, etc. Over in Europe, it’s completely normal to see topless women in print ads, TV commercials, etc. It’s no big deal to them and perhaps they’re all a bit healthier in their heads for it.

Agreed. But while USA is a cable network, it’s not a premium channel and comes with any basic cable package. It also, in this case, is showing re-runs of regular network shows, so I assume people expect similar standards.

Not that I’m offended. But it just seems a little much, you know? It’s not a boob. It’s not technically a blowjob either, but it looks like one.

People had a ‘problem’ w/ Janet’s nipple because

    1. millions and millions of people watch the SuperBowl…and I doubt the number of viewers for syndicated reruns of Law & Order:CI come anywhere near SuperBowl viewership

    2. well, that’s one wizened nipple and most Americans found it to be quite skeevy
