Lord knows I’ve tried, been a witness to homicide
Drivebys taking lives, little kids die
Wonder why as I walk by
Broken-hearted as I glance at the chalk line, getting high

~ So Many Tears, Tupac

Tupac’s music is sad. Sometimes unendurably so.

No matter how many times I go through the Wal-Mart ~yes, i know. shop local. wal-mart is cheap. would i put myself through a trip to that place if i could afford to shop local?~ getting my Pac on as discretely as possible while I pick out shampoo and beans, or drink wine and dance all over the house, or turn it up as I enter the school parking lot as an act of small rebellion, ~pathetic, huh?~ nothing will ever completely erase the sadness.

It’s a track on the recording, like the bass or the backup vocals. It’s in his voice, his words, his breath.

That beans and shampoo moment was today. I’ve had the iPod on all day because I had to go to the grocery store, clean out the fridge, ~don’t get me started~ do laundry, dishes, and other crap like that. I was thinking in the ~motherfucking~ Wal-Mart today that Holler if You Hear Me is the perfect song for the grocery store. Pac’s music can get you through mundane poop like that. ~maybe i’ll start eliminating cuss words from my blog, but only one at a time.the word of the week is shit.~

Now: relaxing, reading, and just generally chillin, tryna b cool. ~my wet slicked back hair, pink plaid pajama bottoms, old navy sweatshirt, and black Danskos do not detract in any way from said coolness~ It Ain’t Easy comes on. Now that I’m sitting here really listening, I realize why I listen to Eminem more than Tupac even though I have more respect for Tupac.

Tupac’s music is sad. Sometimes unendurably so.

They got me staring at the world through my rearview
Go on baby scream to God, he can’t hear you
I can feel your heart beatin fast cause it’s time to die

~ Starin at the World Through my Rear View, Tupac

. . . or turn it up as I enter the school parking lot as an act of small rebellion, ~pathetic, huh?~

Well, glad to know I’m not the only one who does this.

I’m glad you commented, so I would know, too!

Can’t do Tupac. He made plenty of money with the pathetic east/west scheme of the suburban white boys (and girls) and did what the corporate machine told him to do.

But I do know rebellion. So this fat, old white woman blares hardcore: Sick of It All, Kennedys, 7Seconds, BadBrains, SlapShot, and in calmer times, Fugazi.

    But I don’t teach in a wet-blanket environ, either.

There’s a lot of music out there I won’t listen to because sometimes it really is easier not to know. When I’m ready to take in something, I’ll take that route. Many movies are like that. They make you open your eyes and see the world in a different light. Shindler’s List anyone?

I’m glad you realize that not all movies are popcorn munching movies. Not many young people care about any movies that don’t have explosions or gunfire.
