My friend Ken wrote my resignation letter for me today. It’s hilarious. Read the whole letter here.
This is my favorite part, although choosing my very favorite part was tough:
… I flee from the scene with a greater sense of dignity and self-worth than you ever attempted to instill in your staff. My initial trepidation about an uncertain future will most assuredly wash away clean as the minutes away from your feeding ground grow greater and greater.
My altruistic (look it up, and no, it’s not a viable food source) nature mourns for the others that stay behind, that lack the needed courage and fortitude to do as I am doing today. Should their minds feel the inexorable feeling of doom that pervades every molecule of your institution, then I’m hopeful that they will choose the course I take today.
I sent Kitty Cat the link today via Skype, and she responded thusly:
That’s so true. That’s exactly how I feel. Like the decision to leave makes me feel MORE confident and secure. Like a battered wife who is taking charge of her own happiness.
How many times in the last few months have I compared myself to a battered wife?

I read your tweet today and thought of you all day. I went next door and told my colleague about Kitty Cat’s resignation. It saddened me greatly. It is criminal what they can do to us because we act like ‘teaching’ is a calling and to be treated subhuman makes us doubt our ‘qualifications’ for the job. I think workplace mistreatment of teachers is much more widespread than publically acknowledged. Corporations seem to have more system checks in place to prevent some asshat from making a personal vendetta look credible. An employee would certainly bring a lawsuit if treated like this in corporate America. And we gather our personal items and leave the ‘calling’.( shaking my head)

I really don’t know what to say about such a heartfelt statement of sympathy. Teachers are struggling all over. I seriously don’t think this is just me. That’s part of why I started this blog.
Did you see the website on my blogroll, “End Teacher Abuse”

I actually read many of the blogs listed. There is a resonance to them that I seek. I can’t live in the tech ed blogworld with the posts about the next great thing. I need to examine the daily grind and how we get up every day and go back in there-to teach and make a difference. Hang in there-we are all in this together!
